premiered in France in 1962 to glowing reviews.  The play recounts the life of August G., the author’s father: A World War I veteran and a poor, immigrant street sweeper destined by fate to a meaningless existence.  Through its whirlwind narrative, the play leaves audiences questioning the nature of justice and destiny, and ultimately treasuring the power of every person to lead a fulfilling life.

Gatti’s innovative style was dubbed “éclaté,” or fragmented; jagged…  His purpose: to paint a compelling picture of reality seen from its many points of view.  With this play the author revolutionized theater in France in the 1960s, and went on to become one of the most produced playwrights of that decade.

Courage Productions & needtheatre will stage Gatti's important work with a modern twist, set in contemporary Los Angeles.  This re-imagining of Gatti's classic will bring a timely new spin to the story's universal themes of immigration, poverty and war.
